Away She Goes

She marches away day by day,
Slowly slipping through my grasp,
Nothing I say can make her stay,
My breathing turns to gasps,

I'm loosing my love,
The army rips her away,
My pain never seems to end,
All I can do is pray.

She may never return,
She may leave and forget,
But this I have to learn,
Though it hurts, I have to accept.

She slips away,
Leaving this small town,
My hope starts to decay,
But I can't let her see my head down.

The army would benefit from her,
She has the smarts and the heart,
It doesn't matter if the choice is grim,
She has chosen to play this part.

She'll march away soon enough,
Her uniform suiting her well,
She looks so brave and tough,
On this town, she won't dwell.

She says its time to move on,
There is nothing keeping her here,
Soon enough she'll be gone,
And I'll be stuck to wait and pray she doesn't disappear.

Please be safe dear love,
I know I can't stop you,
But you are cared for,
And I will miss you so much.
